Announcements
Mt. Carmel is hosting a Winter Guard tournament on March 28, 2010. There will be 40 performing units visting our campus. Please volunteer to be a part of the tournament. We need your help to provide our visiting guests a safe, fun event.
Tournament meetings are every Wednesday at 6:30 pm. Join us.
Fall Jazz A Rehearsals: Mondays and Wednesdays - 6:30-7:25 am
Sectionals are optional for Jazz A in the first trimester. Lead players however are highly encouraged to hold sectionals as much as once a week. Sectionals will be mandatory starting second trimester.
Grading
Jazz is a PASS or FAIL class. There is no middle ground. Here are the following grading guidelines:
2 Missed Rehearsals (for any reason) = FAIL
3 Tardies (for any reason) = FAIL
1 Missed Performance (for any reason) = FAIL
Family emergencies will be handled on a case by case basis. Because we do not get to rehearse every day, every rehearsal is very important.
Do not sign up for Jazz Band if you know you are going to be missing rehearsals or performances for other school activities such as drama or sports.
HOMEWORK IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO MISS REHEARSALS!!!
Withholding Band as a Punishment
We as directors fully support your disciplinary decisions as parents/guardians. However, due to the collective group effort that makes our jazz ensemble, we ask you to not use our program as a punishment. Not allowing your student to participate in rehearsals or performances is not only a punishment for them, but for the entire jazz ensemble.

Calling All Mt Carmel Band, Color Guard and Orchestra Parents…..
Did you know that Mt Carmel is a test center for the SAT exams? And did you know that the Mt. Carmel Band Boosters administer the SAT exams as one of our very profitable fundraisers? MCBB receives an honorarium from the testing company and those parents who volunteer receive a stipend that is credited to their student’s account. The balance of the honorarium goes to the MCBB General Fund.
When you volunteer, not only are you adding a large amount of money to your student’s account but you’re helping to keep our music program running by providing the funds for instruction, equipment, instruments and travel expenses. In addition, having Mt. Carmel as a test center is valuable service and convenience for your own child when it comes time for him/her to take the SAT exams. Being able to take the exams at their home school is a great advantage to a student. Volunteers can earn between $35 and $52 for one morning’s worth of work! Every test day, we need a total of 35 volunteers to accommodate the 600 students who are registered to take the test. There are two jobs available—classroom test administrators and hall proctors.
Want to learn more about this opportunity to put boatloads of money into your student’s account? Come to the SAT exam orientation/training meeting so see just how easy it is to be part of the SAT Administration team.
