The freezer holds four frozen water bottles; the fridge has a Costco sized Gatorade and two additional water bottles.  An old and honestly slightly decrepit drill finds light once again after being dug from its dusty prison underneath the bed.  A wide brimmed Marines hat is hung on bedpost worn out but comfortable.  With sunscreen in one hand and trumpet in another along with an athletic bag full of the aforementioned items to boot, I walk with my brother to my aging minivan and rocket off to school… a week before school actually starts.  Oh yes, it’s band camp.

I’m well aware that this band camp was one of the hottest I’ve ever experienced, but I’m glad it came when it did.  All of you will agree that the next heat was tenfold times hotter.  But, you know, after it all, it’s not really the heat that I’ll remember.

Looking back on these last four years of consecutive band camps, it leaves me with a feeling of accomplishment and pride, but also a whistling of remorse.  A part of me refuses to leave it behind.  Why? You might ask.  I’m not quite sure.  It’s probably the fact that I will never get to do it anymore.  Or all those great bonds I’ve formed out there.  When all the underclassmen get to be seniors, you’ll understand.

But enough of the reminiscing, let’s get to the here and now.  In my own humble opinion, this is the greatest sounding group and show I’ve definitely heard in a while.  For once, I have full confidence in our performance level!  Even last year I felt a bit skeptical on the quality of our entire package.  But this year… I can already here that crowd roaring at Citrus Stadium.

Here’s what I’ve taken from band camp in a nutshell: attitude is everything, real friendships never die, memories are definitely something to hold onto, and, of course, music brings people together in a truly beautiful way.

Here’s to a great season with the Legend of the Fifth Sun!
