We're Ready and We're Fierce

Category: News

It’s amazing how fast three months goes by.  That’s how long it’s been that the MC Color guard has been practicing together this year.  Since the end of June, we have been preparing ourselves mentally and physically for what appears to be the most interesting show Mt. Carmel band and guard has performed in a while.  While the guard pulled off a stunning performance last year with their famous black and white dresses, this year may be the year to top it all off.  With warrior-like dances and feathered red headdresses, the guard is not only diving into a new area of dance and equipment, but a different style of performance altogether.  It’s a long process that we’re going through to reach the level we demand of ourselves. And we’ve been working at it for a while.

We have been cutting, gluing, modeling and gradually piecing together the headdresses for our costumes this year for a good month now, and we’re proud to say that our time spent after school putting them together has paid off – they’re finally done, and they’re looking good.

The first song is almost completely filled in as well.  We’ve been learning loads of dance work that challenges us in a way that no classical ballet moves could.  It’s all about hard hits, strength and precision.  The dance work is more contemporary than any kind we have performed before.  We also finally received the gold double swing flags that we’ve been waiting for and the work is looking great after weeks of cleaning.  The ending flag work was also taught just recently and it should be interesting to watch how the music and work combines to create the right impact.

Not only have we been working on the field show, but parade practice has begun also.  The parade work is definitely more involved this year.  Jaycee has created a routine that does not depend solely on the flag or banner, but the body as well.  With complicated footwork and complex moves on flag and banner, it sometimes proves to be difficult to put the two together.  But with three hours of practice on Mondays, we are definitely advancing towards our goal of a more precise parade routine.  It’s all about constant improvement.

And that is what we are trying to do – improve, improve and improve.  We’ve been given all the right material and, as our coaches say, all we need to do is utilize it.  Three months go by so fast, and the next two months should go by even faster.  With the work we’ve been given and the determination to succeed, MC guard is definitely ready to put together an amazing show.  We’re ready, and we’re fierce.
